In this 7 minute video JAde Wii, author at Ask.Audio and founder of DAWless Jammin compares the different Groove Boxes available on the market right now. She's talking self-contained machines that allow you create complete songs.
Here's the video:
The Groove Boxes included in the video above include:
JAde feels the price, fun-factor and intuitive sequencer are the selling points for Circuit, though she's not super keen on the included sounds.
The Electribe 2 comes in two varieties: synth and sample version. Sounds great and useful XY pad. Good effects too.
The Digitakt isn't officially a groove box as it doesn't technically generate its own sounds. However, it does allow you to sample and mangle sounds and has a great 8-track sequencer. The included sounds are very good too.
The Teenage Engineering OP-1 is JAde's choice for top groove box. It includes drums, sampler, and an excellent sequencer and effects. It's a full-featured groove box with endless possibilities.
The Analog Four is a areat groove box. The stand out feature is its 4-voice analog synthesizer, but you'll sacrifice polyphony when creating drums, melodies, etc. Another option would be the Analog RYTM.
The MPC Live of course gets a mention as it is a one-stop-shop machine. It's also portable and could for many comfortably replace a software DAW.
