Joe Starts with the difference between hardware and software-based (in-the-box) studio setups. Even in a software setup there will still be some wiring - for getting audio and MIDI into and out of the computer, as appropriate. As far as audio goes, XLR, TRS, TS and RCA connections can be found in various combinations on most gear and you'll want to bypass your computer's internal sound card to use a higher quality audio interface. Joe demonstrates how to set these up in various combinations, including powered or passive monitors and more.
