Mastering In The Box: Which EQ Type To Choose?
Hollin Jones on Fri, March 23rd 0 comments
Standard, Character or Linear Phase? Joe Albano explains each of these EQ types as they relate to the mastering process, and what they bring to the table.

Mastering in the box is a technique that has made mastering available to far more people than at any time in history. But the core concepts of mastering in the box are basically the same as mastering in hardware - it's just that you use plug-ins instead of outboard. In this short video from the course Audio Concepts 202: Mastering In The Box, Joe Albano guides you through one of the most important stages of mastering - the EQ.

Joe runs you through the types of EQ modules you might typically use during mastering in the box: standard, character and linear phase. The first type is the one that probably came with your DAW, the second is an EQ that seeks to recreate some specific model of hardware, and the third is usually bundled with a mastering software suite or application. Joe explains what each of these EQ types brings to the table as well as when you might want to use them in your mastering. Check out the rest of the course for a complete guide to mastering in the box!
