Roland Releases D-50 Synth (In Roland Cloud)
Rounik Sethi on Wed, June 21st 0 comments
The famous D-50 digital synthesizer from Roland has had a re-issue in sorts in the virtual world. You can now get the Roland D-50 plug-in as part of your Roland Cloud subscription.

Wow. Just a day after Roland released their first fully analog SE-02 hardware synthesizer as part of the Boutique range, potentially primed as a Minimoog-style clone killer, they've just come out with a re-issue of the vintage D-50.

Yes, the classic D-50 from the 80s, the synth that "helped to define the sound of the late 80’s with its instantly recognizable mix of sampled attacks and synthesized sustaining waveforms (that’s LA!) plus chorus, reverb, and EQ. It’s the basis of classic tracks in a wide range of genres including Synth Pop, New Wave, New Jack and R&B, plus countless film scores."

Sadly it's not a reissue in hardware form, but is part of the Roland Cloud (software all the way). Here's some more details and spec from Roland on their new D-50 synth plugin:

With the new Roland D-50 DCB Software Synthesizer, Roland Cloud subscribers can have the iconic sound of LA in a powerful plugin, which perfectly recreates this legendary synth down to the subtlest of nuances!

Editor's Note: The D-50 Can NOT be used as a plug-out for System-8. You can, of course, use the System-8 (or any USB/MIDI controller) to control the D-50 plugin running on a VST/AU host.

Main D-50 Features

  • Perfect recreation of D-50 from the company that made the original
  • Digital Circuit Behavior (DCB) faithfully captures every detail
  • Authentic user interface with all original controls and parameters (including those found on the sought-after Roland PG-1000 hardware programmer!)
  • All the original presets plus fresh new sounds
  • 32-bit and 64-bit VST2, VST3 and AU support
  • Simple installation and updates via Roland Cloud Manager

Price: (part of the Roland Cloud subscription, from $19.95 a month).
