Studio One from PreSonus is a fully featured and powerful DAW, perfect for both mixing and mastering. But did you know that it has a special feature that's of particular interest when moving from the mixing to mastering stage? IN this video from the course Studio One 4 105: Mastering Essentials, Joshua Carney reveals that you can import your Studio One Song files into a new project, without first exporting them to a stereo WAV file. Check out the video to see how it works.
The reason this is important is that it allows you go to back and make tweaks to a mix and have them automatically updated in the mastering project, without having to re-export a mixdown first. And while it's not ideal to need to change a mix (it should be as good as you can make it before mastering), it's good to have the option. In fact it could be as simple as changing the length of a fade in or out, not necessarily changing anything massive about the mix. But this feature cam save you some time.
