APC 40 and Euphonix artist series
Hi Mac Vid, 1st of all many thanks for all your videos, i love them and they have saved me countless hours/days/weeks brushing up on learning curves...cant wait for the film techniques one...so, can you help me out please...I am running Logic pro and ableton live, all latest versions...live is slaving to logic, thats all running fine but im trying to figure out how to use mc mix+control to control logic and apc 40 to control live all at the same time. Both work fine when in standalone mode but once slaved (in MTC mode) the apc 40 controls all my logic tracks as well as live tracks. Is there any way i can configure logic not to recognise apc 40's messages or can i configure it in live - can it be done...Its such a shame if not as this is what ive just purchased the controllers for, Ive tried a scan in logic controller setups to see if i could disable mackie control but couldnt figure out how to do it and it doesnt recognise APC 40.. so I added just a mackie control, I set the input in controller assignments to apc 40 and it sort of worked wheras channel 1 on the apc just controlled live and didnt move the logic fader...great, i though id solved it... but then ch 2,3, etc on apc behaved as before moving both faders in both apps...im stumped...any body any ideas...Thanks.

Hi veygo, I'm not so familiar with using the APC for Live and mc mix for Logic in rewire mode. In Logic's environment could you use a channel splitter to separate out messages from the different surfaces to either Logic and/or Live? What about in the clicks and ports layer. Do your controllers appear in the Physical Input object. You could cable them directly to the relevent areas... Difficult for me to suggest as I don't have access to either control surface and very rarely use the rewire function. I believe in Live, though, there is a way to set up and assign controllers... Have you seen the Live tutorials here? Cheers Rounik

Hi Rounik, Thanks for the reply. Ive seen the live tutorials thanks and im pretty sure live is set up correctly (ie just to use apc as a controller. Im not using rewire for connection as the APC 40 does not work in rewire mode i believe, therefore im syncing through midi clock (sorry i said it was mtc before, my mistake) with live as the slave. Ive just had a little look in the environment and yes, both surfaces are recognised there. So as a test i disconnected the sum cable in clicks and ports as you suggested and this seems to be the right direction as both controllers now are reacting only to their own programs. So what ive done now is to take the output of the APC into a monitor object (as a dead end) and then reconnected the sum to the original input view monitor. All seems to be working. Does this seem right to you as im not 100% with the environment and hope ive not disconnected anything major i may need later on down the line. Thanks again Rounik

Hi veygo, Sounds about right. Wish I had the hardware to test this out here... If you have another MIDI Controller then you will possibly need to return to the Environment layer to connect it to Logic (Sequencer Input)... otherwise the changes you've made can easily be undone if needs be... I wonder if the Audio MIDI Setup would provide a more seamless way to set up your controllers... Cheers Rounik

If it ain't broke... So, if you're happy the way it's working after you've weaved your magic in the Environment that's cool! I'll stop thinking aloud ;-) Rounik
