    Re: question about ableton live
Nope, I haven't bought it. But I watch the chapters(this is free..) and this seems to be a nice training for Ableton Live. But to tell u the truth, such a dvd gives u the keys, but the bigest part of your progresses depends of the number of hours(or nights..) u spend making music with the software.. Personaly I ever wanted to spend some years in London, I think there's an unique musical life up there.. Anyway..

Tim, The Black Box does require drivers, you should make sure you've downloaded the latest from If you can see the waveforms being recorded, then it's got to be a monitoring problem. This gets a little harder to solve in text communication! Check your audio output assignments in Live's preferences/audio tab. Check your audio tracks are all activated and sending to the Live master track. You may need to check your Mac's system preferences/sound outputs - is it using the correct audio output? You can ReWire GarageBand and Ableton - just launch GarageBand first, and Live will slave to it. There's no direct routing of audio or MIDI between them, but when you render from GarageBand your Live parts will be included. And..Alex is right to describe Reason as a plugin, as far as Live is concerned!

Hi Tim I know this is a bit of an old thread, but just in case you're still having problems. Martin is right - you need to get busy on the M-Audio website, and download not just drivers but also firmware updates. I seem to recall that you may also need to download a more in depth manual. Basically until you have the new firmware loaded you can not use the dry signals mono guitar in and mono mic in alongside the Stereo Fx/Blend channel { which are very useful]. With the firmware loaded you get four inputs - all of which can be accessed at once through Live {Confirm in the Macs Audio/Midi setup that you have Black Box selected and you should have four in and two outs. As Tim says if you are still having problems do check the System prefs/sound outputs. If you area guitarist - check out You may also be interested ina piece of Free/donation ware called sooperlooper Personally I'm still trying to use LIVE as a a live looper as per KId Beyond {also on ableton website but now available on his own site- check the Ableton video} I hope some of this has been helpful Best wishes Richard London
