Actually, if you look to the right of your 4x3 grid, you'll see a little highlighted box. Just scroll over that and you'll find that you can load up to 128 different samples onto one drum rack! So, yes, it is normal for some drum racks to be empty in places. The presets really start you on a path. You'll end up changing some of them I am sure. Jamie
