Enable Nuendo's Edit Mode in Cubase
Hi chaps. Coming from 15 years with Logic I've demoed nuendo 6 and cubase 7 on Mac and bought Cubase 7.5, because it won me over with its workflow features, audio engine, responsiveness. Just coincidently I've enabled what is to me an essential tool for picture work. In nuendo I leave the edit mode always enabled. I've copied my settings, key commands etc from ~/Library/Preferences/Nuendo 6 to ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase 7.5. When using Cubase I now have edit mode enabled even there is no entry under menu> transport. I asked myself how the hell did that happen. 'Edit Mode' is a transport feature in Nuendo that allows you to synchronize regions/events to video. IE. When you move an event on the project timeline it will also move in respect to the location(timecode/frames) in your video. Absolutely necessary for doing any "Sound to Picture" work. While in edit mode.. all of your automation movements, your fade in/out handles are all sync'd to picture as well. Cubase unfortunately never inherited this feature from Nuendo. So here is how you do it. Please keep in mind I'm on a Mac. Open the "Defaults.xml" with the free editor called TextWrangler (AppStore) but you can use TextEdit as well. You'll find the "Defaults.xml" on a Mac by going to ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase 7/Defaults.xml Tip to the Windows people: the Defaults.XML is located at C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 7_64 (or just Cubase7 if you're with 32bit). It's tweakable with the notepad. Search for "EditMode" and or go to this line 16738 So just change value"1" to "0" or vice versa. "0" = EditMode off "1" = EditMode on I think I've created my perfect DAW and hacked Cubase to my liking. Maybe you find this useful for your composing/ editing to picture workflow. Merry x-mas. Sam
