Stereo or Mono?
I am mixing few tracks with recorded guitar takes. I have duplicated some of the recordings, and panned them just to size the "mono image". Now I want to collect all these guitar takes in a group track. So here is the question: I was wondering if i should make MONO or Stereo group track? I want to add EQ and compression in the group track. Any ideas if it should be mono or stereo group tracks? And why?

First, duplicating a mono track doesn't add anything. I don't understand why you're doing that. Panning identical mono tracks will still sound like one mono track.

All right I kind of realized that. But i wanted to pan it more. Since i recored guitar one mic, so mono track. I have a lot going on in centre and would like to move guitar around and keep the drums in centre. What are my best solutions?

Group Channels are--with only the rarest of exceptions--always stereo. That way, you are able to easily move stereo placement of all the Channels assigned to the Group Channel. As far as where you'd put the guitar in the stereo field, that's up to you. However, I would recommend reading this article on panning, and make sure to listen to the examples of popular music in the article: http://www.askaudiomag.com/articles/mixing-tips-the-importance-of-panning MattLTH

Hi, I am aware that group channels are stereo. To make my question clearer: does group channels(stereo) effect my mono recordings, if i route them to group channels? If I for an example pan my mono track 30% right, and then route it to group stereo will it effect my pan? I know best answer is "listen to what happens" But I am afraid that i would miss or do it wrong? Is it ok to group mono tracks into group channels? when or what not? If i group a lot of these panned tracks to same group channel will it folio the pan of group channel or individual track channel? Then again I have Waves Mercury bundle and it comes with both mono and Stereo plugins of the same kind. Should I use stereo or mono in group channel? Whats is the difference? I get a lot om hum sound in my mixes when i use for an example h-delay and JJP vocals Mono/stereo in my mix..

The mono track will still appear 30% right after it gets into the Group Channel. However, if you adjust the pan control of the Group Channel, that will affect the stereo image of any and all mono and stereo tracks that are assigned to it.
Is it ok to group mono tracks into group channels? when or what not? If i group a lot of these panned tracks to same group channel will it folio the pan of group channel or individual track channel?
It's always OK to group mono tracks into Group Channels. If the tracks you're assigning to the Group Channel are panned, they'll appear in the Group Channel in their original panned direction. However, as I said above, changing the pan control on the Group Channel will affect the stereo (panned) image of the source tracks, mono or stereo alike.
Should I use stereo or mono in group channel? Whats is the difference? Conversely, if your Group Channel has a mono configuration, then use the mono plug-in versions.
I get a lot om hum sound in my mixes when i use for an example h-delay and JJP vocals Mono/stereo in my mix..
I'm not sure what's happening there. I would get in touch with Waves to see if there's a solution. MattLTH
