Using 88 key Korg with midi to usb adapter and garageband
Ok. So I got a macbook pro to hook up to my korg keyboard via midi to usb adapter. So far I have no problems recording with garageband and hearing and printing out what I play on the piano. My question is how in the heck do you record the raw, untouched sound of the keyboard? Garageband wants to default to the grand piano sound (which sounds great) but I want to hear just my keyboard untouched by garageband's filters. I've tried unchecking everything I can think of but still garageband's pre-set piano sound overrides the keyboard. I even recorded playing all the different piano sounds on keyboard and garageband just played it back with it's default piano sound. Any suggestions? Thanks, Sandy

Hi Sandy, If the only hook up you have running from your keyboard to the computer is your MIDI to USB adapter, you won't be able to hear any raw audio from your keyboard in GarageBand. You need an audio cable (aka. guitar cable, quarter inch cable....) to go from your keyboard's output (not the MIDI out) to either an audio input on an interface (if you have an audio interface, or audio/MIDI interface) or directly into your MacBook Pro's input jack. Since this input jack is a mini-jack, you would need to make sure that you have a quarter inch to mini-jack female to male adapter. Then, in GarageBand, in the lower left-hand corner, click on the 'plus' sign, and chose 'Real Instrument'. You should then be able to record audio directly from your Korg. Let me know if that helps. Good luck.
