Audio levels from Pre Sonus midi io IPad
Hi, I’m using a condenser microphone plugged in to a Pre Sonus midi interface, connected to an iPad with GarageBand. Using channel 1, in the microphone section, the input levels are dimmed, not allowing me to control it. The signal at this point isn’t very strong even with the volume knob turned to max on the io. Anyone know a way around this, thanks.

Assuming you mean "audio interface", if the input/record level slider in GB is dimmed that just means that the PreSonus doesn't support GB’s remote input level control (most interfaces don't), so you'll simply have to set set input level on the box itself (as you apparently have). A few things to check.. - Make sure Phantom Power (48v) is turned ON on the PreSonus - If there's a PAD switch on the mic (labelled -10 or something like that) or on the box, make sure it's not engaged - If there's more than one level knob on the box, make sure the one you're turning up is the input level knob for the mic, and not a monitor level knob that controls audio output level for the interface—that wouldn't affect the incoming level for the recording, which is what you need to do - If there's a "Mix" knob on the PreSonus, maybe turn it a little more to the "Input" side during recording (to make the mic signal louder in the headphones while recording), and all the way to the "Playback" side during playback - When you say the signal isn't very strong, do you mean audibly or visually? It's not uncommon for the waveform of a signal with a perfectly good recorded level to *look* a little small, even though the level itself is fine - If any effects are automatically enabled on the mic's recording channel (in GB), maybe turn them off temporarily to see if something there could be reducing the level of the recorded signal unnecessarily
