Change Garage Band's input method to "Vdrum" like in Logic Pro?
Hi all, I connected my Roland 17kvx via usb cable to my MacBook Pro and Garage Band. Unfortunately, some triggers are missing, mostly the rim of the cymbals. I found some articles explaining that the midi input mapping is not complete and this tutorial on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI9PkSXM3PU) shows how to fix it in Logic Pro X: It has the "Drum Kit Designer" and the input mapping can just be changed to "vdrums". Is there any such option in Garage Band as the Kit Designer doesn't seem to exist there? Many thanks

Hi - While Drum Kit Designer is in fact the engine under the hood for Drummer in GarageBand, since the DKD plug-in [or any Logic Instrument plug-in] window doesn't open in GB, I don't think there's a way to do it *within* the program. So you have a few options.. - Try re-mapping note assignments in the V-Drum brain itself - Map drum notes with a (free) MIDI utility called MidiPipe - Bite the $bullet and upgrade to Logic As a Logic user I'd obviously recommend the last option -- the cost of the upgrade is minimal [especially compared to the cost of the V-Drums], and you'll also avoid bumping up against many of the other limitations of GB. Your GB Projects will open intact in Logic, and the Logic interface/workflow is similar enough to GB that it should be an easy transition..

Thank you so much for your reply, Joe. I'll experiment a little around with your suggestions and then check if an upgrade is indeed the way to go
