EXTRENAL MIDI PORT problems
hi , I have a situation with my external gear and logic 8. why can you not assign a differnet midi port to external midi gm devices ? I have a motif XS8 keyboard and I am using the Mlan firewire as my midi and audio interface. I have 3 midi ports available to me in logic but every time I set one gm external midi track to a say MOTIF XS:1 it changes all to the same port. I need to have one set to MOTIF XS:1 and the other to MOTIF XS:3 . If I change one they all change to the same port. why?

Hi bbsound, I'm not near Logic right now, but would it help to set the different devices to different channels? Cheers Rounik

Thank you for the reply. No, it does not help any when I set the channels. In cubase 4.5ai, it is easy to assign a midi port to a midi track but in logic 8 , it's like it will only allow the external midi to have only one specific port , no matter how many tracks I create. If let's say choose external midi track one to port 1 , they all turn to port one and that's what I do not need.

Hi bbsound, My understanding is that Logic does not differentiate between ports... but you can set your MIDI devices to different Channels. Here's a thread about this on the apple discussions: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1924358&tstart=15 Let me know if it helps :) Rounik
