Re: How do I transfer a music song file to new computer?
Hi Gary, Ok, progress is being made here. I have a Lacie and bounced the song on G5 to the Lacie and then opened it in IMac. I now have the .aif and .mp3 version of the song on Desktop on IMac. How do I download these files now onto Logic. I want it to appear as it was on the G5 when I was working on the song with all the tracks in their proper places. Is this possible? Looking forward to the next step. Thanks for your help! Roz

Hi jimandroz, I am a little confused. Do you want to move a whole Logic project (the Logic file with all it's associated audio files and settings), or do just want to import a audio file (such as an aiff or mp3) into a Logic on your iMac? If the former, then you don't need to bounce down the track in Logic on your G5. You need to copy the whole Logic project folder from your G5 to the LaCie drive, then connect the LaCie drive to your iMac and copy the Logic folder to your IMac.

ok, I will try to bounce the entire logic project as I bounced the song by selecting all and bounced. I presume I need to click on the entire folder which I will go ahead and do now and let you know. Roz

I went to the old computer (G5) and dragged in the entire logic project into LaCie. Now it is available on my new computer, but I am not sure now how to get it into Logic as a song to work with. All the tracks are there. How do I open song now in Logic so I can start to work with it? Thanks Roz

Did you just drag the Logic project file or the whole folder associated to the specific project? Make sure you drag the whole folder not just the Logic project file. When you copy that folder to your iMac you should be able to open the project by simply clicking on the Logic project file.

I copied the blue folder only. However when I look at what I have on my computer I have 3 things: the folder which say audio files. 2) the piano symbol 3) project file backups. Should I go back and copy all these again? Roz

Hi Gary, Ok, just went back and copied everything. Then dragged in the entire project. (checked where it said create new tracks), what showed up was 2 measure phrases of many of the tracks and duplicates (up to 7 times) of other tracks. I'm baffled. Is there a way I can speak to on the phone to finish this last step. I feel I am so close. I have followed everything you have said up to this point. I can email you my phone. Is the problem checking the wrong boxes as to existing tracks or new tracks? Roz

You shouldn't be getting a dialog box at all, and I'm not sure what you're doing that is causing that dialog box to open. And you shouldn't be bouncing anything at all before you do this. You don't need to have Logic open on the old computer (or, while you're copying, on the new computer for that matter). You just need to copy the entire folder via the Finder. i.e. drag the entire project folder (which will have an Audio Files folder, a Bounces folder, and a Logic Song File icon inside of it) to your La Cie, then connect your La Cie to your iMac and copy that same folder to your iMac. Once you copy the entire logic project onto your iMac, you should be able to simply double click on the logic song file, and it should open. Or, if you have an earlier version of Logic on the iMac as well, drop the song file icon onto the Logic Studio 9 icon, and that will force it to open in 9, then you can save it as a Logic 9 project. Of course, this may go without saying, but the Logic file is the one that looks like a little keyboard, or a little preview of the arrange page. That's the file you double click on.

Re: How do I transfer a music song file to new computer?
What is sitting on my desktop now on IMac is a folder (my song). Inside this is: Logic song file icon, an audio files blue folder and a folder that says, project file backups. My question is: is this the entire project? The only thing that you mentioned that is not in theree is a bounces folder. In any case, this is what I see when I double click. When I drag this into the Logic program (the 2 programs are the same on each computer), it doesn't allow me to drop it in. BTW, I when loading song onto LaCie, I did it by going into the finder. Thanks for any help! Roz
