deleting rests in the score editor
hi all, I've just gone through peter schwartz's 109 score editor, and it's excellent, and he has a way of putting it over with humour, he's classically trained and a composer and in my view is an expert; But I don't know how to delete rests in the score which were present in my badly played in and recorded arrangement, so when I paused to remember where next to place my fingers, a couple of minim rests went on the score, which I now need to remove. I'm not the best of players, but it's mainly there and it just needs these rests removing and a couple other minor tweaks. please can someone help with this problem which doesn't appear to be covered in peter's 109 tutorial, unless I've missed it! thank you for your time soundscout

Hi Soundscout and welcome to the forums! If you want to remove a rest from your score, that's because the note before the rest is shorter than what you intended playing. Simply select the note and change the note length in the Inspector and the rest will be removed. hi christian L. unfortunately that isn't it, the note is the right lenth but the two minim rests went on the stave as it was a sizeable pause. I want to know how to erase or delete those minim rests or any rest that is wrong and also pencil in shorter rests wherever I want, the question is how? as the eraser doesn't seem to work on rests, this can't be impossible! it couldn't be that limited a program thanks for your time soundscout

Hi Soundscout, If you want to remove a rest, you need to input a note or change the length of a note. It doesn't make sense to delete a rest... If you have 4/4 bar and you input 3 quarter notes in your measure, Logic will add a quarter rest automatically . If it didn't, you would have only 3 beats in your 4/4 bar. I hope it helps... If you still need help, please send me a screenshot of your problem so I can help you further. Or best, send me a link to your project through support. hi christian thanks for your reply, I can see your point and I wondered whether it was to do with the time signature having been set when I played it in. but its played in with the metronome off so it shouldn't even come close to the bars in the track or score editor, it must be logic assigning a time signature by itself but I need to remove rests until the tempo is regular again, this would probably mess up the bar positions and logic would need to recalculate them, that's if it will work like that. By the way, my playing is not ideal; I can play a length of chords and bass (solo piano), but have to pause to remember where to start the next portion of the song as I don't want to play in bum notes. these pauses are where the long rests go into the recording and appear on the score editor, so question; can the time signature be blanked out on the score to enable rests to be deleted or erased? soundscout

Hi Soundscout, Please send me a screenshot of the problem in the forums... Or better send me the project via sendspace. You can send me the link via our support form if you don't want it to be public. Thanks!

hi christian L, thanks for your reply. I'm still in the learning stages at the moment and I've done a lot of cutting and joining and it's a lot better than it was, when played back but, now the score isn't split into bass a treble clefs it's all on one treble clef stave, but most of the troublesome rests have gone, however I still want bass and treble clef staves, question; is it possible to get these back by pressing a couple of buttons? I would also like to fine adjust the rests in the score editor to get it sounding perfect upon playback as before! I haven't joined sendspace yet and I am new to computing but would you be able to manipulate my project if I send it via sendspace? soundscout

Hi Soundscout, Sendspace is free if the file is under 300 MB. Simply load your file via sendspace and send me the link through support and I'll take a look at it. https://www.sendspace.com Thanks!
