Avid Reorganizes Pro Tools Product Line for 2022

Avid has reorganized the Pro Tools product line for 2022. The free Pro Tools First is replaced by a paid entry-level version, Pro Tools Artist. Artist is a bit more full-featured then the free First, but is priced reasonably for those just getting started. Pro Tools Studio is equivalent to what was formerly just referred to as standard Pro Tools. And Pro Tools Flex is equivalent to Pro Tools Ultimate.
These new iterations of Pro Tools—version 2202.4—do add a few new features [as always], which include [among others] the following: Pro Tools Artist ups the channel count [over what was available in First], increases the number of included Avid plug-ins, and now supports third-party plug-ins as well. Pro Tools Studio now incorporates some features that were previously only found in Pro Tools Ultimate, like surround panning and Clip FX. Pro Tools Flex ups the maximum I/O capability. All versions include a new option to customize Keyboard Shortcuts, plus two new Avid Virtual Instruments—GrooveCell is a sampling grid-based drum-machine instrument, and SynthCell is a subtractive analog-style synthesizer with a more accessible interface than Vacuum.
With the new product line, Avid has removed the option for outright purchase of Pro Tools—new Pro Tools users are only offered subscriptions now, though legacy Pro Tools 'Perpetual' owners can still continue to maintain their yearly support plans as before.
