I am going through the reason tutorials with Josh Carney and there is a segment on midi, but I am looking for some help with the Akai MPK 49 any thoughts out there.

Hi - If you're looking for tutorials on the MPK 49, it seems like the closest we have to that would be this course (linked above) on the Akai Advance 49-key controller. It's obviously a very different keyboard, though it does share some features -- drum pads, rotary controllers, arpeggiator, etc -- so maybe there'd be something useful in there for you..? Otherwise if you have any specific questions you want to put out there...
