Are the Waves plugins really all that? Hopefully the administrators could enlighten us, as to which 3d party plugins they use. . . Please.....lol

Well... yes and no... Some Waves plugins are great and you'll find many "pros" swear by them. Others prefer UA, others still mix and master using iZotope plugins... Preferences for plugins come down to many factors. Of course the sound is very important as is the style and type of music you're creating/mixing. :)

Hi Rounik, thanks for the reply, I was just trying to keep from being ripped off or having to buy bundles of stuff before finding out that the 3d party plugin is the same as the plugins I already have. I was hoping to get a list started of what the experienced Logic users are using, as of now I am only using the plugins that come with Logic. Specifically what 3d party plugins have you found to be useful if any? Also do you know of any 3d party plugins that the administrators are using? I have seen them use stuff like, Echo Boy, Vocalign, and Melodyn, any info is greatly appreciated. thanx.

It's tricky for me to suggest Waves plugins because currently they are not 64-bit compatible and require an iLok protection key which, although I have, I never enjoy using... Then there a wide range of Waves plugins - many of which a lot of pros do use very happily. Personally, I've been happy using Logic's built-in plugins, some of the IK Multimedia one's are pretty sweet and iZotope Ozone is very nice and moderately priced too. There's no one-size fits all in terms of plug-ins. Each brings with it its own flavour, so do try some of the trial versions too... btw, I've recently heard that Waves will be 64-bit compatible within a couple of months and may well be moving away form the iLok protection system!! I found when I was working in ProTools a few years ago the included plugins were not so good, so I got some Waves plugins to improve the quality of my EQ's and Compressors. But once I moved to Logic I found that I started using more of the included plugins and virtual instruments. And now I don't use many other 3rd party plugins, except for a few like iZotope Ozone and some Audio Damage plugins. Also iLok is a pian. It will be great if they move away from that. Its always a hassle carrying around an iLok when you want to be mobile. I think Waves really has alot of competition these days and are overcharging for their plugins.

Also, Waves has really dragged their feet on making their plugins 64-bit compatible. I started with Pro Tools as well, and I don't know about now (they may have improved their plugin package some by now, I don't know), but when I started with Pro Tools, the included plugins were ... less than acceptable. So I invested in Waves Gold and have since upgraded to platinum. And I have to attest, there are some really great plugins in there. But, I like working in 64 bit. I don't trust the 32-bit bridge. Waves has been promising that the 64-bit versions are coming out "just around the corner" since late 2009. I did a search a little while ago (so there may be new info out there now), and still, the most recent thing I could find was an open letter to their customers, complaining that Apple didn't give them a heads up, and that they're working on it, but they have so very many plugins, and that to possibly look for it early 2010. And here it is 2012, and still no 64 bit version. So I'm way invested in a set of plugins that I never use anymore. The "we have so many plugins" excuse was fair and bought them some sympathy from me for a time, but now...2 years later? So for me, Logic's own plugins are doing the job. I wouldn't drop any money into Waves until they update their software to operate in 64-bit.
