Logic with Live! Funny how you get such differing opinions...in my experience, Reason offers very little to the Logic user (assuming we're talking about Logic Pro), whereas Live brings it's insane universe of real-time manipulation and spontaneity. Logic Pro for instrument sounds, Live for audio manipulation - you can't go wrong :-)

Tim, a MacBook would be great with Ableton or Garageband, and, as far as I know, ProTools. I'm running Live 6 and GarageBand on a 2-year old 12" PowerBook without any problems (as well as an iMac), and the new MacBooks have higher specifications that my PBook. In fact, I'm getting ready for an upgrade any time now! RAM definitely makes a difference to performance - squeeze in as much as you can :-) The main difference with MacBookPros is the graphics performance, and of course screen size...but I take my laptop everywhere, and for me, smaller is better! Alex, please tell me more about the 'problems', I'm curious...when using Reason I have the songs on my Mac and the refills on an external firewire HD. Never had any problems with this!

Hey Dom, how you doing? Hope you\'re having a good holiday! Unfortunately for you, (the other) Martin is right about isolating vocals. It\'s the holy grail of sampling - everybody would like to be able to do it, but it\'s just not possible. If you can figure it out, you\'ll make a lot of money :-) And not many artists make their \'unmixed\' parts freely available, because of the \'commercial potential\' of remixes, and copyright issues - personally I think more material SHOULD be available, but for now the best answer is to create your own, or use some of the many commercially available sample discs/downloads. Hi Alex...as far as ReWire goes, I sometimes hook up Live with Logic Pro...very powerful combination. Yep of course, Reason also, though not so much these days as Live adds more instruments. My most common ReWire pairing is Live with Arkaos VJ, tho! Plugins...not many...Arturia Moog Modular, Battery 2, Crystal, Korg MS20, PSP Vintage Warmer, and then some great free ones like Chip 32, Cheeze Machine, and anything from DestroyFX!

Alex, you're using Melodyne for editing? I never really thought of it as an editor. I would suggest using Melodyne purely as a plugin or a standalone application. Does seem a little bit overkill for most editing jobs. These days I do a lot of 'editing' functions within Live, using the consolidate and crop sample commands - very useful, and saving me a lot of time switching between apps. If that won't do, then I sometimes use the free Audacity editor, or Logic Pro.
