What is the difference between ‘Master', and ‘Elements' libraries?
Master' has all of the articulations mapped to a keycap, ‘Elements' loads the articulations, but does not activate them
‘Master' is all of the articulations switched by velocity. "Elements' are the beginning, middle, and end of the samples, chosen with CC2
Master' controls all of the articulations of Play as a whole, allowing for the changing of parameters easily across multiple instrument types
‘Master' uses the master output of the Play mixer. 'Elements' has automatic assignment to individual outputs
2
What is WordBuilder?
Wordbuilder is a synthesizer built on formant synthesis.
Wordbuilder uses a combination of physical modeling and granular synthesis to generate speech.
Wordbuilder uses spectral synthesis to playback speech patterns.
WordBuilder allows the composer to create phrases for the symphonic choir to sing.
3
What external controls work with the EWQLSC library?
CC70, CC71, Aftertouch, and CC27
Mod Wheel, CC11, CC7, and velocity as well as CC20 for restarting a phrase

CC25, CC26, aftertouch, and CC90
4
What purpose do the Goliath instruments primarily serve?
Goliath is a gargantuan drum library that is primarily used to create massive cinematic drum patterns
Goliath is a gigantic library of drum kits that were recorded in very unique spaces around the globe, from decommissioned nuclear reactors to old churches. It is a very unique drum library
Goliath is a multi-sampled very large piano that uses a combination of physical modeling and spectral synthesis to create tones far outside the range of a normal piano and is used for very unique sound design purposes
Goliath is a great way for new users to have a wide, general palette of East West sounds for all genres
5
Why would you use a script sim?
If you are using an instrument that does not have a script built in, like Round Robin samples, these scripts provide a facsimile by using different tuning, timing, and sample selection techniques.
The script sim is used to keep track of the articulation setting and can be used as a controller map as well.
The script sim can only be used with libraries that are programmed to take advantage of the sims.
The script sim is used to get more dynamic layers out of an instrument where they previously did not exist.
6
What is the difference between a slur and portamento?
A slur is used to tie a legato instrument's passage together, and portamento is used to smoothly transition pitch
A slur is slower than portamento
A slur has a shorter duration between the first and second pitch, giving it a different curve than the linear portamento
A slur is sloppier and has indeterminate time when moving from note to note
7
What controller should you always try with East West libraries?
Macro
ModWheel
CC70
Aftertouch
8
What are the 3 languages of WordBuilder?
German, Italian, and Russian
Russian, Latin, and Greek
English, Phonetics, and votox
Russian, Latin, and German
9
Why does the Powerful System have its own folder?
The powerful system is very CPU heavy and requires more overall system resources than any other articulation in the library
The powerful system is an algorithm that uses advanced core threading to get more efficiency for the CPU
The powerful system is just the system file. It's the engine that the EWHS is running on
The powerful system is a series of instruments that are designed specifically for overblown movie productions - like a Michael Bay movie
10
What does ADT stand for?
Assisted Divisi Template
Automatic dual tone
Automatic Double Tonguing
Automatic Double Tracking
11
What does ‘Legato MOD' do exactly?
The Mod Wheel is used to create a volume crossfade between samples
The Mod wheel is used to switch the instrument between legato and spiccato articulations
The Mod Wheel is used for volume
When the Mod Wheel is used during a melodic passage, a slur is used to connect the first note to the next note
12
What is the difference between MIDI multis of SD2 and the performances of SD3?
In SD3 actual recorded performances are time-stretched to match the tempo of the DAW instead of using MIDI files
In SD3, MIDI performances are not used. Instead, there is a new control system that is used to create tuning and timing patterns that are based on algorithms to emulate the performances of Mickey Hart
In SD3, the MIDI files are located in the ‘MIDI performances' folder and can be quantized in different ways
In SD3, MIDI performances are not played within the player. They must be accused through the DAW and reassigned to channels there
13
What does ‘EXP' mean in a Hollywood Woodwinds library patch?
Aftertouch is used to get more vibrato out of the instrument
The instrument was recorded in an expressive way with vintage microphones
Mod Wheel should add dynamics as well as vibrato
Expression is added to the instrument with CC10
14
How do the timpani libraries make rolls easier?
The roll can be saved as a MIDI file to be used in a DAW
The rolls' speed is dedicated to the Mod Wheel
The left hand and right hand strike of the same pitch are placed an octave apart
The rolls are time-stretched to match the session tempo
15
What is an example of a brass effect?
Tremolo, col legno, sul ponticello
Con sugo, bellingissimo, molto agressivo, Col Legno
Zing, bop, bam, diggity
A Crescendo, Rip, Shake, or Cluster
16
How are MIDI performances used with the SD2 library?
MIDI files may be downloaded to the player, and they are retuned and retimed to match the performance of the SD2 sound library's live performance patches
MIDI files may be played within SD2, but the note data only determine a timing and tuning guide for the performance loops in SD2
MIDI files may be dragged into the sequencer in the Player and separate channels can be played back on separate instruments in SD2
Multi-channel MIDI files play within a DAW to control Multi-channel Play instruments. They are multiple SD2 instruments that are on different channels, to create a great thunderous performance loop
17
What is Bisbigliando?
It's an effect that is achieved by lightly tapping the instrument with a soft mallet
It is an effect created by wind blowing over the strings
It is an articulation that is made by the bending of harmonics created on the string
It is a special method of tremolo that is created by a rapid rubbing of the fingers on the strings of a harp
18
What was the name of the producer that Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix teamed up with on the Hollywood Strings library?
Phil Spector
Thomas Bergersen
George Martin
Nile Rogers
19
In Stormdrum 3, how do you turn on the SSL channel strip?
In the Mixer, simply route any articulations and instruments through the master bus, and then in the Player window assign the SSL modules individually based on the bussing system
In the player, choose the ‘FX' power button and route whatever articulations you like there
In the browser, choose the ‘FX' folder and load a preset there. The SSL section will pop up in the Player shortly after
Turn on the ‘FX" button on the Play mixer, then turn the power button on for the input of the channel strip. There are power buttons for the transient designer, the reverb, and the compressor as well
20
What is a special way that the Play engine can speed up load times?
Play can load sounds into RAM from a virtual cloud
You can have multiple Play engines loading sounds concurrently
Play uses data compression to play instruments before they are loaded

It's a technique of creating a false harmonic from the horn using the soft palate of the mouth
It's an in-joke among brass players
It is a way of stopping a brass instrument with the tongue to create a muted sound
A way that brass players can articulate very fast passages by using both the tongue at the teeth, and the roof of the mouth
