Francesco Schiavon is a recognized expert in the topic of digital media deployment for web and optical disc. A dedicated educator, Francesco has spent the last decade teaching in some of Canada's leading multimedia schools.
Francesco Schiavon is a Video Compression guru and through the years he has been a mentor to macProVideo.com's founder and creator, Martin Sitter. In fact, the skills Francesco taught Martin were used to create the video delivery system that forms the foundation of the NonLinear Educating System you're using now. WIthout Francesco Schiavon, there may never have been a macProVideo.com ... Those may seem like big words, but once you watch these videos you'll understand why.
This 4.5-hour tutorial starts with a solid overview of the video compression workflow in Compressor 3.5. Francesco eases you into the video encoding process by showing you how to us Compressor's built-in presets to make simple compression jobs and batches. Next, you'll move on to see how Compressor 3.5 interacts with all the other Final Cut Studio applications to create perfectly outputted files.
In Chapter 2, you'll go deeper into Compressor as you begin exploring the process of making your own compression settings. You'll learn how to set frame rates that are appropriate for your delivery method, how to work with aspect ratio, and even some advanced topics like understanding frame rate conversion.
You'll also explore adding filters to your jobs to create effects in your video, from creative effects (like applying audio and video fades) to important extras like adding a watermark or text / timecode overlay to your encoded video. There's even a section on adding actions to a job, such as an email notification of job completion or running an AppleScript after the job finishes.
This is a comprehensive tutorial, but you don't need to watch the entire show. Use the Keyword Search functions and detailed menus to quickly find topics of interest ...that's the essence of NonLinear Educating!
Good introduction to all the variations in Compressor. Unfortunately, the new interface of compressor looks different, but most of the stuff covered here can be found. The course uses cooking videos to show how different settings can affect processing time, quality, and other aspects of the video, and how to find your way around the somewhat non-intuitive compressor interface. It would be great if a newer tutorial series were made for the new interface.

Wow, I learnt a lot! Ok maybe this course would be updated a little for Motion 4.x, but the whole thing, basically, is there. It's long too, you should cut this course into 3 or more 'little' ones.

Even though I have used Compressor for years, there were numerous details that had escaped my notice or understanding. This has gone a long way toward clearing that up.

Good knowledge of subject which comes through in the delivery.
If you are looking for an overview and the mechanics of Compresor this does the job.
Would be great to have some pre defined option for different delivery media..eg: Web, Web HD, Vimeo. If you have a video with high motion....
But overall if you want to understand Compresor this will arm you with the information to play and deliver content
