You need an orchestra to play orchestral music. Likewise, you need an orchestral template to play a MIDI orchestral score. This course, by Peter Schwartz, explains the technology and the craft behind designing pro orchestral templates.
As a follow-up to Peter’s popular "Enhancing Realism" course, "Designing Templates" shows you everything you need to know to construct your own orchestral templates. You learn about sampling technology and how it works, as well as how to optimize your hardware (and software) to get the most out of your MIDI orchestra. Then, Peter dives into the plugins, including East West, Native Instruments and more, explaining the ins and outs of multi-timbral and multi-output setups. With that knowledge well in hand, Peter gives you all the tools and tips you need to construct an orchestral template that’ll work perfectly with your specific hardware and software.
Next, you learn all about the power of Vienna Ensemble Pro and how it’ll become the center of your MIDI orchestra universe. Finally, this course concludes with an important section explaining how to setup orchestral slave systems, which in the world of scoring, is the solution of choice to harness the power needed to achieve the ultimate MIDI orchestral solution.
Completing this course gives you the knowledge and confidence you need to setup the orchestral template that you’ve always dreamed of. And, once you’ve got your template up and running, you can then, finally, concentrate less on the technology and focus more on composing your music. So whether you're creating music for games, TV, film or live performance, you will know that your personal orchestra is standing by, ready to go, awaiting every wave of your virtual baton!
I've found this course very Clear and Professional!!!
After several months looking for a course on how manage a virtual orchesta I found it!

Just fabulous. I wish I'd taken the time to watch this as soon as it came out. I've been struggling with under-powered sequencers crashing with big templates for a long time, and never knew about VEPro.
Makes me wonder what else I don't know! Please keep making these!!
A question about VEPro and AU/VST compatibility. If I use a mac for the daw, and I use a windows PC as the slave, do I have to be concerned about the AU incompatibility?

Great resource for how to setup a large orchestral template properly and thoroughly covers slaves, VEPro, how to organize the template, the recommended hardware and how to coordinate it all. Schwartz's videos are instructive, light hearted and funny. Highly recommended!

Very helpful course for those wanting to optimize their orchestral plug-ins (or any other samples for that matter) in their DAW of choice. Glad to find some insightful tips that can help me out!

Really worthwhile - the series addressed several optimization issues that are pure gold, the only other way you would ever get to know them is by putting in the same amount of time as Peter has had working in this area. There is so much that can be done to squeeze every last drop of CPU and RAM from your system. He also provides a great introduction to Vienna Ensemble Pro and why it is useful. It is kind of funny, the course is called designing templates, which is only a small part of the syllabus - it is because the templates can become so massive, optimization is paramount.

This is an exquisite course. It succinctly guides you through all of the critical aspects to setting up complex yet optimised sample orchestral templates. It has genuinely saved me months of time otherwise having to read a large book on the subject; and has revolutionised my workflow. Simply exquisite.

The advanced MIDI course on orchestration template techniques is great! I am currently doing the same work using orchestration to sync with video in Logic. This class helped me understand and create more effective templates for better workflow. I recommend it to anyone doing the audio courses on MPV

I'm usually hyper-critical of tutorials, but Peter Schwartz got this right!! Comprehensive, but easy to follow, I wIsh I'd watched these before wasting time and money on VEP5 "experts." Amazing job.

Peter - I would like to know more about the Hybrid Solid State Drives which are cheaper than SSDs. Are they any good ? Please let us know.
Thanks for this amazing tutorial.
