The SongCraft adventure series continues! They're back at SxSW to attempt to compose and produce a song in a single day with indie band "Butter the Children". Will they succeed? Watch and see!
Guerrilla recording brings with it many challenges: Odd mic setups and less than optimal recording environments. Add on top of that the extreme pressure of actually composing a song in front of the cameras and you have all the ingredients for a major musical breakdown! That is, unless you have a room full of talented musicians, engineers and songwriters!
And that's the magic of this incredibly fun and informative SongCraft Series. It's all about skill, passion and technique fusing together -like musical molecules- to generate something big... derived from a simple inspiration. And, all along the way, we learn all about songwriting, audio engineering and production. Everybody wins!
So join Ben, Al and Mike as they take their portable audio recording rig to SxSW to capture the essence of "Butter the Children". And then follow them back to their NYC Dubway studios to add the final magic. There's lots to be learned here. It's a musical journey not to be missed!
I really enjoyed watching this course. It has given me a few new ideas for my own (very) modest song writing efforts. :-)

Most of us started in a band a while back. Technology was not so developed. It was nice to watch. It´s not easy being and working in a band.

Great Project, very informative! I really enjoyed this, and it was interesting to see your workflow. The only thing I would have liked to see was more specifics and explanations on your recording setup and mixing, specifically, what mic pres, what hardware on the front end, what compressor and eq on vocals, what processing did you do on bass. You guys do good work, and the track sounded WAY better than I thought it was going to!

I always like to see how a song is born from scratch and follows all the steps until the final product. This what this course is giving and why I liked it.

If your new to song writing, then this will give you some insight to the process, and what it takes. There were also some good tips for creating stems in Pro Tools, and how to prepare your session for use in different DAWs like Logic Pro X.
