OK, so you’ve recorded your guitar tracks... Now what? Well, that’s exactly where this tutorial begins! Learn how to make your tracks really glisten with this amazing guitar production tutorial from Grammy-nominated and Surround Music Award-winning producer, mixer and sound designer, Rich Tozzoli.
Making platinum sounding recordings is Rich Tozzoli’s specialty. Rich reaches deep into his vast experience with artists like David Bowie, Ace Frehley, Al DiMeola, The Blue Oyster Cult, Average White Band, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Hall and Oates to bring us a treasure trove of time-proven, award-winning guitar production wisdom.
This tutorial is all about guitar production techniques. These techniques are not tied to a specific DAW. The knowledge presented here is totally cross-platform and applies to every DAW!
So how does this tutorial work? First of all, you’ll be doing lots of listening; studying awesomely performed guitar tracks and learning why they are recorded in specific ways. Rich explains, in great detail, why and when tracks are doubled and sometimes tripled in unique ways as he explains his techniques and letting you audition the amazing results. He also shows you what kinds of plug-ins are used and lets you experience first hand how they are fine-tuned to produce the most incredible sensual sonic experience.
This tutorial starts off with a discussion of setting levels and using Aux sends. Then Rich takes you to the electric world. Here you’ll learn about amps and amp simulators and DAW track copying tricks and how they are combined to create that High-end sound.
Next you’re off to the acoustic world where you’ll learn about his mic techniques; how he blends, pans, EQs and compresses. Then there’s a not-to-be-missed section where he takes you into double-tracking and the totally transforming Hi String trick. Finally we’re off to the mixing effects and how to incorporate reverb, EQ, tremolo and panning.
This tutorial, Producing and Mixing Guitars is, perhaps, one of the best tutorials on this subject anywhere! So welcome and join Rich Tozzoli as he takes you on this 6-string extravaganza, exploring the eclectic and exciting world of our favorite rockin’ instrument: The Guitar!

Good review, I just sort of wish there were some instructional series teaching how to mix Heavy Guitars...
This stuff is nice. I have no interest in Hi string but I'm sure a lot of players do. I wonder if Universal Audio is not paying this dude or giving him free plugins or something but their plugins do seem cool.
Yeah I just wish there were something for the underground metal audio engineer.

Nice discussion about mic selection, placement and blending of mics (and DI) for tonal control. Lots of effects with examples on how each work.

I used this course to learn how to thicken up a number of guitar parts in numerous songs and it worked wonderfully. It was quick and to the point, which I needed it to be.

This tutorial is great. I purchased it as a download as I am interested in mixing guitars (I'm not a guitar player).
Even though I am an audio engineer; I learnt new ways of working even within the first 7 chapters! Sure, some of it was quite basic but it has to cover everything. For example, I'd never thought to use a spectral analyser to see the eq peaks before then using an eq to adjust - id previously used knowledge and hearing only to do this task, so I'll enjoy practising the new ways of working to see if it makes a difference.

A very well thoughtout and delivered tutorial for addressing recording guitars, both via mic placement & selection and DI signal and how to blend those tones to achieve an effect much greater than the sum of its parts.

Finally finished with these tutorials, so what i can say - the whole series is sorta trend - it's not just another tutorial about what daw is or how to mix vocals. It's THE tutorial. Very interesting to watch and finally to know something really new. May I give a suggestion to expand this direction - next thing that i'd personally really want to see - tutorials about producing and mixing heavy guitars. And about recording them as well. That would be awesome to learn. Thanks.

My interests currently lie in the plethora of music production techniques in Logic, and MacPro Video have helped my up the learning curve on many occassions. However, being a guitarist of old (who got distracted & rusty), 'Producing & Mixing Guitars' with Rich Tozzoli has been a real turning point. Talk about marrying my interests! The DAW meets the guitar(s) here. Both electric & acoustic are explored & optimised in a devastatingly thorough review of just what is possible.
He also has whetted my interest in a number of rateable plug-ins that are out there in the noise (like Soundtoy's 'Echo Boy'), so it's helped me sort the wheat from the chaff in that area too.
As for the down-side. Simple. There isn't one!
Thanks to all involved.
